about

When I was homeless, I drank very heavily and spent a lot of time in public libraries during the day. They all feel like a second/first home to me. After my hospitalization, I moved into a house that was two blocks away from a multi-story, MULTI-LINGUAL library that also had a copy of Goodfellas on DVD. That was a very triumphant moment for me ...This song isn't about that-- I just always love talking about that goddamn tax-funded Goodfellas DVD. For a week at a time, that baby was all mine.
***
I'm nearly two years sober, thank you very much! (May 2021. In sobriety, I am a sturdy, stoic Taurus. Drunk Alicia is very much a Cancer. oh ho ho she's so clever.)

lyrics

I was at the library-- not because of anybody-- I came here for myself.
At least I thought so, just before every single antibody put you in my sight.
And I was wondering...
Do I look just as bad as I smell?
How can you look so hungover, yet handsome as hell?
I had a rough night shift to a rough life-- fuck everybody.
Rinse, and then repeat.
But I can't help but love that of anywhere and anybody,
you picked a library.
And I was wondering...
Do you put the milk in first or do you think it's lame?
Do you want to know my middle name?
I could ask you for help to reach the top shelf
or be a creep who walks off and says nothing.
